Ring Size Guide

Getting the size right the first time matters, particularly for engraved, custom-made and eternity pieces that cannot be resized. Two methods below cover almost every case. If you are still unsure, send us the measurement and we will convert it for you.

Method 1 — Measure a Ring You Already Own

This is the most accurate method, and the only one we recommend for wide bands.

  1. Take a ring that fits the intended finger well and is not a wide band.
  2. Place it on a flat surface and measure the inside diameter across the widest point, in millimetres.
  3. Do not measure the outside of the band, and do not include the metal itself.
  4. Find the diameter in the conversion chart below and read across to your US, UK or EU size.

Method 2 — Measure Your Finger

Use a strip of paper or a piece of non-stretchy string. A stretchy or elastic material will give you a size that is too large.

  1. Wrap the strip around the base of the finger, where the ring will sit.
  2. Mark the point where the strip overlaps and completes a full circle.
  3. Lay the strip flat against a ruler and measure the length in millimetres — this is the circumference.
  4. Find the circumference in the chart below and read across to your size.

Charts differ slightly between countries and between manufacturers. Treat this one as a close guide rather than a laboratory measurement — and when in doubt, ask us.

Five Things That Change Your Size

  • Time of day. Fingers swell through the day and are largest in the evening, smallest first thing in the morning. Measure in the afternoon or evening.
  • Temperature. Fingers shrink in cold weather and swell in heat. An accurate measurement taken in a cold room may be half a size too small.
  • Band width. A band of 6 mm or wider covers more of the finger and feels tighter than a 2 mm band of the same size. Go up half a size for wide bands.
  • Stacking. If the ring will be stacked with others, size for comfort — or up half a size.
  • Knuckle size. If your knuckle is wider than the base of your finger, size for the knuckle, so the ring goes on and off comfortably.

When in Doubt, Size Up

A ring that is slightly too large can be resized down more easily, and can be worn with a sizing insert in the meantime. A ring that is too small may simply not be wearable. If you are between two sizes, choose the larger.

Free Resizing, Once

We resize once free of charge within 60 days of delivery, where the setting allows. Full-eternity bands, some pavé designs and certain tension settings cannot be resized without damaging the piece — we will tell you at the time of order if that applies.

Earrings, Necklaces and Bracelets

Earrings are supplied in a standard size with a secure fitting. Necklace and bracelet lengths are measured end to end, including the clasp, and most pieces include a short extension chain. If you need a non-standard length, write to us before ordering and we will quote for it.
